What do I wear to the auction? What does dressy casual
While the auction does not
require formal attire, it is a night to dress up a little. Wear that favorite
dress or have a good excuse to shop for a new one! Don’t let what to wear hold
you back from attending. Anything from pants to dresses goes; your Sunday best:
or your work clothes are fine. Men are not required to wear a coat and tie, but
if that makes you comfortable go right ahead.
If I have dietary restrictions will there be something
for me to eat?
We will have several meal
options in the form of food stations.
What is the vegetarian option?

Do I need to bring cash to the event?
You can use your credit
card if you register online prior to the event or at check-in. Cash is also
accepted. There will be a cash bar; however, soft drinks, iced tea and water
are included with the dinner.
What about items I win - do I take them home with me
Yes! The silent auction
tables will be full of items in all shapes and sizes for you to bid on and if
you win the item it is yours and should be taken with you after check-out. If
the item you win is an experience or an event to take place later you will
retrieve at check-out a certificate with the contact information necessary to
schedule or retrieve your item.
Are items I buy tax-deductible?
Yes but it depends. If you
pay more for your item than its value you can deduct the amount over the value
on your taxes. If you pay the value of or under it is not tax-deductible. If an
item you pay is an experience or a “priceless” item, you will have to confer
with your tax advisor about what to claim as a deduction. You will receive a
receipt with values listed for all your purchases that evening.
Does buying an item at the auction count towards
participation to The Annual Fund?
No. The purchase of your
ticket to the auction is the cost of the meal, and any purchases you make at
the auction are considered a transaction not a gift that counts toward
participation. The auction and the items to bid on and win are a fun way to
raise money for The Annual Fund and gather as a community to celebrate. We are
grateful for your generous bidding, but we hope that you will also prayerfully
consider a donation if you haven’t made one already. There will be an
opportunity to give that evening when you check out.
What is the parking situation at White Manor Country
There is a large flat
parking lot very close to the club building where the auction will take place,
and if you prefer to be just steps away there is a circular driveway where you
can be dropped off right at the door.
Can we come to the auction and not bid?
Absolutely! Come to enjoy
an evening celebrating DC, honoring our Alumnus of the Year, hearing our
students perform, and fellowshipping with DC parents, alumni, alumni parents,
What is mobile bidding?
Mobile bidding is a great
way to streamline the bidding process so you can spend more time chatting and
less time frantically checking paper forms to see if someone has out bid you
yet! Prior to the auction or when you arrive that evening you will download an
app to your smartphone (we will provide the link) and from that app you can
scroll through the entire catalog and pick those items you want to bid on. You
can even from the start just put in your max bid and the system will bid for
you up to your designated amount. The items will all still be on display but
really you don’t even need to be in the same room as the items are to bid on
them. So sit back and visit with friends and bid away while you monitor the
action on your phone!
Do I need to bring my smart phone for mobile bidding?
Yes! Husbands and wives
will still have one bidder number but can both be bidding from their phones or
you can designate one of you to be the bidder for the night.
What if I don’t have a smartphone?
We will have multiple
Chromebooks on the tables and assistance to help you with your bidding.
Do you have to be a DC family to attend?
Not at all! This is a
great event to bring a prospective family, your neighbor, friends from church,
or anyone who loves an auction and would be interested in hearing more about DC
and supporting Christian education.
Who comes to the auction?
In the past couple of year
we have had close to 250 people attend the auction and it is parents,
faculty/staff, alumni, alumni parents, grandparents and friends who attend, but
there is not criteria to attend.
Can I just make a gift without purchasing an item?
Yes! You can indicate your
gift and return with your RSVP card or when you RSVP/register online. That
evening there will also be an opportunity to give by credit card or check.
How do I pay for my items at checkout?
If you register your
credit card online with “express pay” you are all set for the night and any
bids you win the amount will be charged to the card you registered and a
receipt will be emailed to you. If you wish to not do express check-out you can
pay by credit card or check at the check-out desk that evening.
